charm to the role.
Cooter was the kind of character who seemed perfectly at home in Hazzard County. His garage became one of the show’s recognizable locations, while his relationship with the Duke family helped establish him as one of the series’ most memorable supporting characters.
The show itself became a cultural phenomenon, and Jones’ performance ensured that Cooter remained closely associated with the series long after its original run ended.
## A Career That Began Long Before *The Dukes of Hazzard*
Jones was born in Tarboro, North Carolina, in 1941 and developed an interest in acting while attending college. His professional career eventually included theater, television, film and commercial work before he landed his defining role as Cooter.
His acting credits included appearances in productions such as *Smokey and the Bandit* and *As the World Turns*, among other projects. ([EW.com][2])
